CanSkate Program

Welcome to the exciting world of skating! Our CanSkate program is the official learn-to-skate program of Skate Canada, designed for beginners of all ages who want to learn the fundamental skills of ice skating.

What is CanSkate?

CanSkate is a nationally recognized, dynamic, and fun-filled program that focuses on continuous movement and interactive group activities. Our certified Skate Canada professional coaches deliver the program in a safe, friendly, and structured environment. The program is taught in a circuit format, where skaters rotate through different stations that focus on a variety of skills. Skaters are grouped by ability level, ensuring they receive personalized attention and are challenged appropriately.

Who is CanSkate for?

CanSkate is for everyone! Whether you're a young child lacing up skates for the first time, a teenager looking to improve your skills, or an adult who's always wanted to learn, CanSkate is the perfect place to start. The program is designed to accommodate all ages and skill levels, from those with no prior experience to those looking to improve their basic skating ability for hockey, ringette, figure skating, or just for fun.

What will you learn?

Our CanSkate program is built on a series of progressive stages, with each stage introducing new skills. You will learn the fundamentals of:

  • Balance: Proper posture and a strong foundation on the ice.

  • Forward and Backward Skating: Gliding and propelling yourself with confidence.

  • Stopping: Safely and effectively coming to a stop.

  • Turning: Changing direction and navigating the ice with ease.

  • Edges: Understanding and using the inside and outside edges of your blades.
