STARSkate Program

 

Welcome to the next level of skating! The STARSkate (Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition) program is a unique and comprehensive program that bridges the gap between basic skating and competitive figure skating. Designed for skaters who have completed the CanSkate program, STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in a fun, challenging, and supportive environment.

 

What is STARSkate?

STARSkate is a nationally standardized program that focuses on developing well-rounded figure skaters. It offers training in four key disciplines:

• Skating Skills: This is the foundation of the program, focusing on mastery of fundamental skating movements, edge quality, control, power, and speed.

• Ice Dance: Inspired by ballroom dancing, this discipline teaches timing, musicality, rhythm, and unison through a series of compulsory and creative dances.

• Free Skate: This is where you'll learn to execute jumps, spins, footwork, and field movements, either in isolation or choreographed into a program set to music.

• Artistic: This discipline allows skaters to show their creativity and artistry through movement, expression, and musical interpretation.

How does STARSkate work?

The program is taught in a private and/or group lesson format, providing a progressive and sequential learning experience. Skaters work with Skate Canada professional coaches to develop their skills and have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Assessments through a nationally standardized assessment system.

The STARSkate program is structured in progressive levels, from STAR 1 to Gold, allowing skaters to advance at their own pace. Skaters have the opportunity to participate in club-level and interclub competitions, which provides valuable experience in a fun and supportive setting.
